Rust 04:06
Time I'm writing for you to hold off tonight, I think there's a chance... I saw for a moment the people I once was and now, they'd like me, to dance. If I could beg you to slow down we'd don our old masks and we'd sway around like fools. It's slow it has to be calm, for tonight. We've taken all the tests and we know all the rules. And now, everything that could be, and now, everything that was is already becoming something else all the leaves are all turning to rust in my mind. Tonight I'm prepared to stoke all the bonfires, to talk til no words make any sense. These guitars and drums have been listening all this through all the rest, let's leave it all to chance. Oh, we could beg you to slow down, we'll don our old masks and sway around like fools. It's slow, it's gonna be real calm tonight. We'll take all your tests and we'll break all your rules. And everything that could be and everything that was will already be something else and the leaves will all turn to rust in my mind.

Dancing Away 03:59
The party it has ended and the hangers on, they're staying right here and I'm walking out that door and that I can't walk back is all that's very clear to me now Somehow we faced the morning somehow we placed our feet just right somehow we'll find the glory in dancing away one more night I know where you are and I'm there with you child I'm there whenever you want me The sun has this way of asking: how does it make you feel to be alive? I walk without conceding whether I think or feel wrong or right somehow we play the drama out sometimes this tension is all I've got somehow I'm not alone in this loving the things we were and I'm not somehow we chase the morning somehow we placed our feet just right somehow we'll find the glory in dancing away one more night I know where you are I'm there with you child I'm there whenever you want me You know where I am I'm here with you child I'm here whenever you need me

Piano Keys 04:45
You touched piano keys your knees would tremble slightly as you described all the melodies as anarchy your unwrapped presence slow parts to lullabies i'm hypnotized the sky is shaking all your friends are there somewhere you promised them something they don't know how you feel it's all so slow you don't know how i feel my skin is glowing and the what this is confounds me you start the car the music up the night awaits you reach your place on earth where magnetic sentiment holds you convincingly you're going there you don't know where it is but it's the only place to go and you are going in a burning way so here's to love and the one you'll let it make you for tonight i thank you i am you i love you.

And you know you'll lose yourself and you know you'll finally win. and the chance you'll laugh and it shows you're on your own sensate me You decide to stay at home and you're sure you'll never go when you find yourself with no-one home you should never go she'd never go

Echo 06:35
Blue the tension, my imperfection you came to me like lightning lighting up the empty desert do you notice my devotion? you came through me like a lost bird inside a house not used to motion I was waiting but I wasn't expecting a girl looking over the side of the water a woman there reflecting back I can't explain it plainly state it I fell you still but you're not here and I'm tired of always waiting I feel you still but you're not here and I'm tired of always waiting I don't care what the world thinks about me I can take it on all by myself but if you want to I could use you here beside me and together we can take it on I'm tired of waiting for the moment to become me Until I find truth I'm not going home so listen closely as the midnight hour approaches and echo me back when you hear my song echo The hour approaches so many choices you come through me like a manic stampede of a thousand wild horses could you want this? what I envision? time keeps moving faster and faster won't wait for your decision water me rain me on down take me like a galaxy spin me round and round OH I WANT THIS I WANT IT SO VERY LOUD I WANT TO FLOAT HERE LIKE A WANDERING SEED NEVER TOUCH THE GROUND I don't care what the world thinks about me. I can take it on all by myself. But if you want to I could use you here beside me, and together we can take it on. I'm tired of waiting for the moment to become me, until I find truth, I'm not going home. So listen closely as the midnight hour approaches and echo me back when you hear my song echo echo echo echo echo.

Falter 08:20
The timeless child opens his mouth the mindless man he's a burnin' out the giant smashes angels at his feet and then takes a seat this world is full of clues, read them if you choose but if you don't, don't act so confused At night we sleep in lonely towns by day we engage with the frowning clowns everyone on this merry-go-round is pacified with eyes opened wide and our dreams float around like ghosts and you cling to more things than most but that's nothing no nothing to boast So come forth with all your dignity and let me know how free you'll be when someone pairs your shackles with their key and then you'll believe those unrelenting ties were playthings for your eyes were jewelry in disguise The timeless child he's a flyin' south and all the people on the ground twist and turn like blood beneath the skin of this world we believe in I ask you: who's complete who won't accept defeat when clearly proven beat? Yes and I'm trying not to falter after telling them I would lead I say let's have us a good ol' time before it gets harder let's take all of our undying fantasies out in the street yes and we'll ride them down past the graveyard we'll push them straight through the park and this town will stand grey-eyed and weary like statues weathered and stained, crazily plain and we'll wave to them smiling inspiring a typhoon of unresolved pain we are that fucking vain, we are the sightless man he's shuffling the cards while a full table waits and all ante up the stars but before there's even a chance to release a sigh someone asks why? and the air becomes thick as a dream and there are no longer pulses it seems so quiet no-one heard the screams so subtly dressed and in single file the mannequins are all at the height of style but no work is done until they know the rules: play dumb or play cool and don't you be getting smart finish up what you start and then start again I'm dying trying to act proper but that won't quite fulfill this need I want to do something right now before it gets harder but the lines they're all moving so fast I can't read between. That giant? he's threatening to keel down that child looks? too far to reach all the mannequins? they line up and cater to your satisfaction but you give no reaction you're still there trying to tell everybody that they could be free but they don't believe they must be deceived? they must be deceived.

about

Talk Into The Stars is still one of my favorite albums. It will always bring me back to that time when I left California behind and moved up to Portland, OR.

It’s an album of aching broken heartedness, for sure, but it is also very bluntly about redemption and hope. I wrote a lot of the songs while still desperately clinging to my ideas of love thus far.

Recorded in the summer, literally in a woodshed, on a tape machine, the sound is warm and lush.
